Sweet Enemy

Geoffrey Wentworth never wanted to be the earl, but like any good soldier, he knows his duty.  Upon his brother’s death, he scuttles his plans for his own life and takes up the duty of running the family estates.  His mother’s definition of duty differs from his, however, and can be summed up in one word - grandchildren.  When Geoffrey rushes home from Parliament to answer her urgent summons, he finds himself host to a house full of women, all vying to become the next Countess of Stratford.

Liliana Claremont doesn’t want to be any man’s wife, much less a Countess.  The orphaned daughter of a well respected chemist, Liliana is a brilliant scientist in her own right, though getting most men to recognize that seems hopeless.  If she had tuppence for every time she’d been told her place was in the nursery, not the laboratory, she could buy the Tower bridge.  However, when she receives a coveted invitation to the Earl of Stratford’s house party, she trades in her beakers for ballgowns.  You see, her father secretly met with an unnamed member of the Earl’s family on the night that he was killed, and this is her one chance to search their family home for clues. 

As Geoffrey and Liliana are drawn into a mystery that challenges everything they know about their families and themselves, they both must ask of each other : Are you my love?  Or my Sweet Enemy?
